When committments would allow, us mums (Debbie, Sue and myself) would all meet up with our rapidly growing up kids (Gem, Mike, Jo, Robbie and Kt) and meet up somewhere for pizza and lots of chat. We all considered ourselves sooooo lucky as not only did us three best friends adore being in each other's company, so did our children; and although we didn't do this often, when we did it was lots of fun. On this particular occasion, conversation turned to Gem's job as a Funeral Arranger. My Kt was intrigued and enthralled by Gemma's stories and obvious passion for her job, and although a little macabre we started talking about being buried and, how some families put things in the coffin of their loved ones. We were all chatting intently about this but were all brought to an abrupt halt when Jo declared with great authority " and some people put lettuce in the coffin too...." Lettuce??? As in lettuce that we make salads with and rabbits eat?? "No" said Jo in horror!! " Letters..." The laughter lasted for ages; and it's moments like that one which will live on for ever in my heart.
